About Kumon

  • About Kumon

The Kumon Program was created in 1954 by Toru Kumon, a Japanese math teacher, who wanted to help his son develop the necessary skills to achieve academic and professional success. Today, 50 years later, Kumon has become the world’s largest after-school learning program with a global presence. Kumon learning centers can be found in 48 countries on six continents! Over the years, Kumon has helped millions of students of all ages and abilities maximize their potential and develop the confidence and skills they need to achieve success in school and beyond. The Kumon Method can help your child, too.

  • Understanding the Kumon Method

Kumon is a learning program like no other. Unlike traditional tutoring services, the Kumon Method was designed to help students become independent learners. Kumon encourages children to take an active role in their education, teaching them not just what to learn but how to learn. With this unique learning process, Kumon students acquire the tools and skills they need to solve problems on their own and also build the confidence and self-esteem they will need to succeed. A common benefit shared among Kumon parents is the ease and accuracy with which their children complete school assignments. In addition, many Kumon students study concepts one, two or even three years above their grade level.

  • The Kumon Learning Center Routine

Kumon students visit their learning center twice a week. Upon arrival, they take a new assignment for the class and drop off their completed homework for grading. Kumon students complete the assignment and hand it in for grading and correct it until it is 100% right. They leave the center with assignments to work on at home.
